null +

May 29. 2024, Blackbox Lucerne

The performance series null+ was launched as a long-term project realising research with several layers of exploration on sound. The core of this project is building a set-up where the sound is projected through different resonators.
In the first performance, which took place in May 2024 in Luzern, two long fish strings were intended to be manipulated by two performers, engaging with the sound that echoes to the fish strings attached to the piano. Through the common act of tracing a single string, the performers themselves exist as a medium with the function of creating sound itself, constructing an acoustic space on the spot.
At the same time, by confronting each other as individuals with their own identities, they embody the intimacy, differences, interactions, and connections that emerge between multiple entities through both action and sound. The acoustic space is built up based on overtones, creating a certain density in the space.
Further, it brought a flexibility of set-up to realise the performances in different locations and environments. This project is an attempt to understand what the location offers in terms of composition and performance in space. It includes the exploration of placing the audience inside the set-up and, at the same time, giving the possibility to see the performance at different elevations, breaking away from traditional concert set-ups and creating an intimate space that brings the audience closer to the sound.
